Tag & Release Line Class

By now all Clubs would have received the Line Class Tag & Release Sub-committee’s proposal to which the NSWGFA Executive have endorsed and will be putting forward at the forthcoming AGM as a notice of motion.

Included with this proposal was a “background” document giving details of what has transpired over a period of time to reach this point, as you would have noted by this, a great deal of time and thought has gone into this proposal. The NSWGFA Skippers that were invited to comment on Survey II were also notified that this proposal would be on the table at the AGM and that the document was available to be viewed and downloaded from the NSWGFA Website at:

www.nswgfa.com.au – section News & Happenings then click on Tag & Release Line Class proposal to open the file or it can be downloaded onto the computer. Skippers were asked to view this document and go back to their respective Club Committee’s with their comments.

Both the Line Class Tag & Release Sub-Committee and the NSWGFA Executive believe that this proposed point score is a fair and equitable compromise and it is hoped that Clubs will see it as such and support it putting the element of skill back into the equation. If the proposed point score is accepted, there will be further notices of motion to alter the structure of the Cock and Chicken O’the Walk Tag & Release trophies i.e. a section be introduced for the number of fish tagged as well as the pointscore to determine Champion Zone, this is similar to heaviest and most meritorious for capture and an additional Interclub trophy to be added. It may well be that Clubs will feel that there should be further additional trophies added to balance the trophy structure if this is the case then Clubs can put up a notice of motion to add further trophies if they believe this should be the case.

Marine Parks

The Batemans Marine Park and Port Stephens-Great Lakes Marine Park issues were discussed at the Full Council Meeting in November, since that time Northern & Southern Zone representatives from the Sub-Committee that was formed and Clubs have attended the respective meetings that have been held to discuss the proposed parks.

The Batemans Marine Park was declared effective on 7 th April 2006 , we are still awaiting the Draft Zoning Plan to be released.

The Port Stephens-Great Lakes Marine Park was declared effective on 1 st December 2005 , the Draft Zoning Plan has just now been released and can be viewed and downloaded on the website: www.mpa.nsw.gov.au

There is also a Public Notice for Comment – submissions must be returned by 21 st August 2006 , the comment document can either be submitted electronically or by downloading the submission brochure from the site and forwarding it to the given contact address by the due date.

It is important that Clubs and as many members of each Club as possible do take the time and complete the submission. Please inform your members in your respective Newsletters.

Club Grid Maps

At the 2005 AGM, the matter of having a uniform set of guidelines for Club Grid Maps was discussed, Clubs were asked to forward their grid maps to NSWGFA where each map would be looked at and if needed recommendations would be made as to what was required to bring that map up to the NSWGFA standard. Interclub Radio Communications Officer Neil Grieves accepted the task of reviewing these grid maps and has subsequently made a recommendation to the Executive that Club Grid Maps should all contain the following information:

  1. Lat and Long scale must be clearly shown on all sides of charts
  2. Compass rose must be on chart.
  3. Depth must be shown (metres, fathoms, feet).
  4. Uniform grid size shere possible.
  5. Where possible charts to overlap North and South.
  6. Disclaimer
  7. Club Name
  8. Emergency contact phone numbers.
  9. Points of reference, eg. Fads, Reefs, Canyons in Lat and Long.
  10. Points 6,7,8.9 should not overlay fishing areas.
  11. Chart should be produced in largest size possible.

This matter will be placed on the agenda for the AGM as a discussion item.

Please ensure that if you receive a record claim, that all information, terminal tackle is legal as per Angling Rules & Regulations, the correct photographs etc. are included with the claim BEFORE forwarding onto NSWGFA.
